Wordsearch - November, x19 words to find

(0)
What’s included? This download includes x2 (portrait orientation, pdf) A4 sheets, featuring one ‘November’ word search (page 1). The answers on page 2 clearly show where all words are hidden, displayed in the same layout (as page 1) to promote autonomy whilst providing easy comparison/quick reference. Other seasonal wordsearches including Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, Remembrance Day, Bonfire Night and other seasonal celebrations are also available in my TES shop. Who’s it for? This word search has been designed for pupils in years one and two, as well as students needing additional learning support. Resource layout The word search letters are arranged in a x14 (across) by x13 (down) grid and featuring easy to read size 25 ‘Sassoon Infant Std’ font. The November words have been organised into four groups of four, clearly showing all hidden words below the word search. There are x19 words to find in total and nouns are illustrated on page 1. These words are hidden horizontally (forwards and backwards), vertically (up as well as down) and diagonally (forwards). Words to find are; bonfire, diwali, fireworks, guy fawkes (no space), chrysanthemum, poppies, baked, potato, toffee, apple, all saints day (no space), all souls day (no space), armistice, dark early (no space) and remember. Recommendations I recommend that learners use a ‘highlighter’ style pen when finding the hidden words as highlighters enable all letters to remain visible once each word has been identified. Some letters have been used more than once (for different words) so all letters need to remain visible (if words are instead ‘crossed out’ this makes the letters harder to read and identify). This word search may be printed and laminated to be reused. Important message

Christmas words (and pictures) to sound out/match (Phases 2&3)

(0)
New online service coming soon with FREE downloads (including this resource) available! For more information visit https://alphabetlearning.online What’s included? This download includes x6 sheets, portrait orientation, pdf format. For sounding out x8 words made up of Phase 2 and 3 sounds, matching these with the x8 images. All items included are designed to stand up. What’s it for? This resource has been designed to be an interesting activity for learners to engage in independently to consolidate their knowledge of Phase 2 and Phase 3 sounds. Learners are to sound out the words, looking at the graphemes printed on the ‘word cards’ and match these words with the corresponding ‘stand up character/picture cards’. There are x8 words and x8 images to read and match. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for Early Years children who have been learning these sounds for the first time, pupils in Year 1 who need some practise/reinforcement of these sounds as well as older learners needing to revisit these sounds who would enjoy this Christmas themed activity. Resource Details
Each word card has a coloured triangle (top, left). Pink indicates these words are using Phase 2 sounds. Purple indicates that these words use Phase 3 sounds. Red graphemes indicate that these sounds might be more tricky as different people can pronounce these sounds differently. E.g. the ‘er’ in the word ‘cracker’ may be pronounced as an ‘uh’ or even an ‘a’ sound. Learners may need support with the red graphemes. All images/words included in this resource have been chose because they can be sounded out - the ‘tick’ pictured on the coloured (pink/purple) triangle indicates that these words can be sounded out. These colour coded details are also included on the resource. Words included are: Phase 2 Words elf robin Santa Phase 3 Words cracker tree nutcracker snowman pudding Important message

How to make a Function Machine

(0)
New online service coming soon with FREE downloads (including this resource) available! For more information visit https://alphabetlearning.online What is a Function Machine? This download includes a list of exactly what is needed to make a Function Machine as well as x5 portrait orientation pdf instruction sheets (with photos) explaining exactly what to do - step by step. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as older students needing additional learning support. What is a Function Machine? A ‘function machine’ is like a post box but when something is posted into the top slot it pops out of the lower slot reversed - to younger learners this can seem like ‘magic’ ! A Function Machine can be made from a simple shoebox and is designed for double-sided cards (credit-card size is perfect) to be posted into it. What’s it for? Once made a Function Machine can be used in lots of ways as different sets of double-sided cards are built up to use with it. Examples include - number bond facts adding doubles facts times tables practising phonics sounds (grapheme on one side, image with that initial sound on the reverse) reading noun words (picture on reverse reveals answer) The list of possible uses is endless and up to you which direction to take this in
This is a great resource to invest in making as it’s a little bit different and can be used to demonstrate learning in an interactive way and for those learners who like to ‘do’ this can really engage and keep them interested - learning without realising - perfect! The instructions include photos from different angles, showing details at the different stages to make exactly what to do as clear as possible. It’s actually not that tricky once you grasp the aim but when it’s made (and it works!) it’s pretty cool - learners really enjoy it! Christmas Alphabet picture/grapheme cards to match (Single-sided)

(0)
New online service coming soon with FREE downloads (including this resource) available! For more information visit https://alphabetlearning.online What’s included? This download includes x7 sheets, all portrait orientation, pdf format. What’s it for? These Christmas alphabet matching cards have been designed to be printed onto card to practise identifying the x26 initial Christmas-themed alphabet sounds. Learners match the initial sound for each image with the correct grapheme. A fun way for learners to practise their sound knowledge at Christmas. This activity has been designed to be a simple, interactive, predictable activity to promote independence and consolidate learning. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as older students needing additional support with learning. How to use it? An adult prints these cards onto A4 card and and pre-cuts them into x52 separate rectangle cards. The set of cards is shuffled and placed on a table top for learners to sort and match. Learners could use this resource on their own or with adult support. Learners could also use this resource to order the cards alphabetically. Learners look at each image and say this out loud. They then identify (verbally) the initial sound of the word e.g. for the first letter of the alphabet the learner would say “Advent Calendar” and then “a” (for ‘Advent’). Learners then look for the ‘a’ grapheme card to match the two cards together. Resource Details
This recourse includes x26 pictures - one (initial sound) for each letter of the alphabet and x26 matching grapheme cards - all Christmas themed. An extra ‘n’ for ‘nutcracker’ is also included (so x27 pictures and letter cards). This set also includes an ‘Answer sheet’. The pictures included use words with clear initial sounds. Some images/words may be completely new to learners making these a talking point and opportunity to extend their ‘Christmas vocabulary’. For clarity all images are labelled on the right side of every grapheme card, e.g. ‘quince’ may easily be presumed to be a ‘pear’. Pictures included: a Advent Calendar b bauble c cracker d dove e elf f fire/fireplace g gift/s h holly i invite/invitation j jingle bells k king (two versions of the ‘k’ grapheme are provided) l lantern m mistletoe n nuts / n - nutcracker (two ’n’ cards are included) o orange p pudding q quince r robin s star t tree u under (the tree) v Vixen (a reindeer!) w wine x Xmas zest (of lemon/oranges, lemon pictured) x2 versions of the grapheme ‘k’ card are included as some learners may be more familiar with one font style than another - two ‘king’ cards are also included. The answer sheet has been designed for learners to use and check answers independently, encouraging autonomy. Important message
Any issues please let us know - we are happy to make changes.

Christmas Alphabet picture/grapheme cards (Double-sided for use with 'Function Machine’)

(0)
New online service coming soon with FREE downloads (including this resource) available! For more information visit https://alphabetlearning.online What’s included? x6 sheets each with x5 picture/grapheme cards for all letters of the alphabet plus additional options for e/n - all Christmas themed. All sheets are portrait orientation, pdf format. The alphabet cards are designed to be double-sided and used with a Function Machine. How to make a Function Machine is available as a resource to make yourself, following step-by-step instructions. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as older students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? These cards have been designed to be cut out and made into double-sided cards for learners to practise identifying the initial sounds for x26 Christmas-themed images. This is a fun opportunity for learners to practise their sound knowledge in the run up to Christmas. Without a Function Machine these cards could be used by learners to self check - turning over the card to see if they were correct. How to use it? An adult prints these card shapes onto card and follows the instructions which are included on every page of the resource. In total x28 picture/grapheme cards are included. The set of (double-sided) cards can then be placed on a table top, positioned with a ‘Function Machine’ for learners to use on their own or perhaps with adult support (initially). Learners look at each image and say this out loud. Learners then verbally identify the initial sound of the word. E.g. for the ‘a’ card the learner would say “Advent Calendar” and then “a” (for ‘Advent’). Learners then post the card (image side up) and when it pops out of the Function Machine’s lower slot (grapheme side up) they can see if they were correct. As an additional activity learners could order the cards alphabetically. Resource Details
The pictures included use words with clear initial sounds. Some images/words may be completely new to learners - an opportunity to expand their vocabulary. Uppercase Alphabet letters for window display

New online service coming soon with FREE downloads (including this resource) available! For more information visit https://alphabetlearning.online What’s included? This pdf download includes x5 landscape orientation sheets featuring every alphabet letter (uppercase) and clear step by step instructions to create colourful acetate letters for (window) display. What’s it for? These letters have been designed to install and sense of awe and wonder - the letters look so beautiful when the sun shines through them and where the coloured letter shape ‘falls’ depends on the position of the letters in relation to the sun which changes as the sun’s position changes. The set gives an opportunity to showcase the whole alphabet together to encourage learners to recognise and name each letter (and sound) and practise the order of the alphabet. The letters can of course be repositioned to create words and labels as you choose. The lowercase version of this resource is also available. This resource would support work on shadows, light/dark and better understanding the shape of uppercase letters to support greater recognition. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students who would appreciate a pop of colour shining through letters/words when the sun comes out! Resource Details There are x5 pages. The first includes instructions and the remaining pages include all of the alphabet letters. Suggestions Printing and making these letters out of white card is recommended - paper is too flimsy and see-through so not effective. A set of coloured acetate/cellophane sheets is needed to make these - these are quite inexpensive online. We also recommend also backing every letter in white card so that the coloured acetate/cellophane is concealed - this looks so much nicer on the window and makes each letter stronger however it is twice the work and time. ANY issues with any of this please don’t hesitate to let us know - we are happy to make changes.

Resource layout The word search letters are arranged in a x10 by x10 square grid and featuring easy to read size 25 ‘Sassoon Infant Std’ font. The November word search is x13 squares up/down x14 squares across and the ‘Harvest Festival’ word search is x10 squares up/down and x12 squares across. Words are hidden horizontally (forwards and backwards) and vertically (up as well as down) and diagonally (forwards and backwards).
